Bristol Involvement in Laser Weapons

MBDA Bristol is  involved in the design stage of ‘Dragonfire’ the new British laser weapon

In January 2017, the MoD awarded a contract worth £30 million to a consortium headed by weapon’s manufacturer MBDA to produce Britain’s first laser weapon, known as’ Dragonfire’. Other consortium members include QinetiQ, Leonardo, GKN, Arke, BAE Systems and Marshall ADG.

 

These directed energy weapons (DEW) are expected to come into service in the mid 2020s. They will be used against numerous targets including drones and small boats

 

 

A naval ‘Engine as a Weapon’ symposium in Bristol 20th and 21st June 2017 in the SS Great Britain complex, Harbourside discussed the integration of directed energy weapons (DEW) onto warships.
